The Capricorn district municipality’s efforts to improve the quality of education in the district
has proven to be bearing fruits following the significant matric improvement by schools that
were adopted by the Municipality.
This comes after the schools improved in their matric results. Out of 21 schools that were
adopted by councillors last year, only 4 had underperformed, with 17 schools having made
us proud with improved results.
In the beginning of 2008, the Municipality adopted the 21 schools across all 32 circuits in
Capricorn that were classified as underperforming to provide them with continued education
support in order to improve their matric performance. The municipality benefited the schools
by organizing summer enrichment classes to prepare learners for the examination and a
capacity building workshop for their educators to sharpen their managerial abilities.
As a result, Nakedi, Sekuruwe, Peter Nchabeleng, Nthema, Letswalela Bahlaloga,
Mapeloana, Mabea, Mamokutupi, Lehlasedi, Kgabo, Maimane, Mamolemane, Kgalushi,
Makgato, Nthabiseng, Mokomene, Mathipa and Makgato high schools improved respectively
while Ngwanalaka, Mashaha, Mamafa and Tidima high schools registered a slight decline in
their performance. As the overall performance of the Capricorn stands at 61.3%, the district
performed well in math and science - coming second to Vhembe.
In a meeting with the Executive Mayor Cllr Motalane Monakedi, the district senior manager,
Mr Dan Mabote expressed gratitude for investing in the future of matrics. Monakedi assured
the department of CDM’s is still committed to work together in supporting schools
